Berlin honors Prof. Dr. Braun for her pioneering work in gender studies and her fight against antisemitism and racism.
Berlin honors former Harris Professor in Jewish Studies, Christina von Braun, with Germany's Federal Cross of Merit for her contribution as a "pioneering thinker and champion of science and society".
"With over five decades of outstanding work, Professor Christina von Braun has significantly shaped the dialogue between science and society. Her pioneering work in women's and gender studies, as well as her tireless commitment to combating antisemitism and racism, deserve the highest recognition, reads the statement from the Senate Department. The Order of Merit, also known as the Federal Cross of Merit, is the highest honor the Federal Republic of Germany bestows for services to the common good."
Professor von Braun's presence at Dartmouth through the Harris German Program exemplifies the program's mission: to bring the most distinguished and pioneering German scholars to campus.
