The History and Politics of Antisemitism

Susannah Heschel, Eli Black Professor of Jewish Studies at Dartmouth College, will speak in conjunction with the Kahn Institute short-term project "Antisemitism." The rise of antisemitism throughout the world has sparked renewed debates among historians about the history and nature of antisemitism. How should we, as scholars, evaluate antisemitic attacks, both physical and verbal? Does antisemitism constitute a two thousand year history or should each episode be analyzed as an independent expression of contemporary politics or social unrest? This lecture will focus on how scholars might undertake an analysis of antisemitism. Open to all
