Dartmouth Regional Faculty Seminar in Jewish Studies to be held on April 16, 2023

The guest speakers in the event will be three scholars from Israel, Professors Ora Wiskind-Elper of Michlalah College, Jerusalem, Moshe Naor of University of Haifa, and Abigail Jacobson of Hebrew University, who will discuss their unpublished work in progress demonstrating new approaches in their fields and present material that might be incorporated in undergraduate survey courses as well as graduate seminars.

The Dartmouth Regional Faculty Seminar in Jewish Studies will be held in Hanover, NH, on Sunday, April 16, 2023. The guest speakers in the event will be three scholars from Israel, Professors Ora Wiskind-Elper (Michlalah College, Jerusalem), Moshe Naor (University of Haifa), and Abigail Jacobson (Hebrew University). All three will discuss unpublished work in progress demonstrating new approaches in their fields and present material that might be incorporated in undergraduate survey courses as well as graduate seminars.

Professor Ora will discuss her work on new approaches to the study of Hasidism in her research titled, "Shifting Perspectives on Hasidism in Jewish Studies." She will also present an English translation of a Hasidic text that will be examined. Professors Moshe and Abigail will present an aspect of their joint examination of two Israeli neighborhoods that have seen social unrest: Musrara in Jerusalem (1970s), and Wadi Salib in Haifa (1959) in their research titled, "Trapped on the Margins of Jewish-Arab existence: Musrara and Wadi Salib Compared, 1949-1967."
