The Department of Jewish Studies is pleased to introduce our newest faculty members, Visiting Professors Susanne Zepp-Zwirner, and Artur Markowski.
About Susanne Zepp-Zwirner
Visiting Professor Susanne Zepp-Zwirner is a University Professor and Chair of Spanish and Latin American Literatures at the University of Duisburg-Essen. She previously held the Chair of Romance Philology at Freie Universität Berlin, serving as Deputy Director of the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Leipzig. She is also a Permanent Fellow and former spokesperson of the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg, and was awarded the Order of Isabella the Catholic in 2023, for her contributions to research and teaching.

About Artur Markowski
Professor Markowski is a leading scholar in the field of Jewish social history and violence studies, focusing on programs in Polish lands. He is a Faculty member in the Department of History at University of Warsaw. He specializes in 19th-century social history, especially concerning Jews under the Russian Empire and violence as a social phenomenon. His research encompasses topics such as anti-Jewish violence, Jewish self-governance, conversions, and relationships with tsarist police. He has been the recipient of scholarships and grants from prestigious institutions such as Polityka, Foundation for Polish Science (FNP), the Lanckoroński Foundation, and Poland's Ministry of Science & Higher Education.
