This talk will examine Rosenzweig's theory of the Jewish people as an extraordinary people standing outside history, and question whether it remains a valid conceptualization following the Holocaust and the establishment of the State of Israel. Rosenzweig's views will be presented in the larger context of Jewish thought in Germany since the Emancipation.
